Description
With the
aim to promote the involvement of boys and men in efforts to end female genital
mutilation (FGM), on Monday, March 04, 2024, the Center of Excellence for the
Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation (CEFGM), in partnership with the
Center of Arab Women for Training and Research - CAWTAR, held a screening
of the film "Circumcision" by Ahmed Solimane and "Together to
protect the rights of women and girls" by Mohamed Amine Bede, followed by
a discussion on how to engage men and boys in efforts to end this practice.
The two
videos were made as part of the video competition for men and youth to make
videos on FGM, launched by IPPF-Arab World Regional Office and the CAWTAR as
part of their joint project "Combating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM): Fulfilling
the 2030 Promise".
The representative
of the CAWTAR reviewed the partnership program with the International Planned
Parenthood Federation-Regional Office for the Arab World on the topic of
"Combating Female Genital Mutilation", and the head of the Center of
Excellence in Mauritania confirmed her interest in strengthening partnership
relations with CAWTAR, praising the importance of the partnership program
implemented between "CAWTAR" and the Federation.
The meeting
was marked by the presence of representatives of civil society organizations
and young men and women, who discussed ways to promote the involvement of young
men and women in the effort to end this practice.
