Description
Across Africa, the Frontline Ending FGM initiative empowers women and local communities while engaging men and boys as essential allies. By providing direct funding to grassroots organizations and activists, the initiative ensures vital support reaches the most vulnerable areas, giving local leaders and young men the opportunity to drive sustainable, community-led change.
At the heart of the initiative is the Born Perfect campaign, combining intensive training, village-to-village outreach, and local media campaigns. In academies, survivors, activists, and male advocates receive training in advocacy and life-tree management before the caravans set off. Caravans include religious and cultural leaders, men and boys, doctors, and musicians, all carrying a single, powerful message: "Our girls are born perfect – say no to FGM."
Long-term media campaigns use radio, television, songs, and influential guests to raise awareness about the health and psychological risks of FGM, highlighting the crucial role of men and boys in protecting girls. The initiative operates in 15 African countries, from Kenya to Senegal, and Nigeria to Sudan, ensuring its message reaches every community and builds a safer, healthier future for girls and women.
The "Born Perfect" caravans launched in May 2024, starting in Guinea-Bissau and Mauritania, and later moving to Kenya in August 2025. The campaign is expected to continue until mid-2026, with plans for the caravans to reach Djibouti by that time, after covering 7,400 miles across 20 African countries.
