Description
Cawtar participated in the international workshop “Science and Religion: A Multidisciplinary Dialogue to Combat Female Genital Mutilation”, held in Cairo and organized by the International Planned Parenthood Federation – Arab World Regional Office. This participation is part of the Center’s ongoing efforts to combat gender-based violence and promote the rights of girls and women.
The workshop featured scientific and religious discussions on the stance of different religions regarding FGM, as well as reviews of programs and initiatives by governments and civil society organizations in the Arab region and beyond to combat this harmful practice. Cawtar Center’s contribution to addressing the phenomenon in several Arab and African countries was also highlighted.
For the past four years, Cawtar, in partnership with IPPF Arab World Regional Office, has been implementing a regional program to engage men and youth in efforts to eliminate FGM. The program includes:
-
In-person and online training
-
Interactive media platform
-
Practical Guide: “Boys and Men Against Female Genital Mutilation”
-
Training of trainers to implement advocacy programs in countries where the practice continues
